Graduates of recognized universities outside the United Arab Emirates can now apply for a renewable Golden Visa for a period of ten years, which enables them to live in the UAE without the need for a sponsor or host with the intention of working, investing, establishing a business, or settling there, according to the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security.

The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP), however, states that the authorities have certain terms and conditions, with a charge of AED 350, provided the following prerequisites are met:

  • A passport with a minimum 6-month remaining validity (without the requirement to be present in the UAE
  • According to the worldwide categorization recognized by the Ministry of Education, the applicant's alma mater must be among the top 100 institutions in the world.
  • Graduates of bachelor's programs must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 degrees.
  • The Ministry of Education must authorize the certificate, and the candidate must have graduated within the last two years.

According to the ICP, applications can be submitted through four channels that are accessible around-the-clock, seven days a week, including the UAECIP website or smart application. To apply through these channels, applicants must first access the smart services system using either their UAE digital identity or a username, enter the required information, attach the required supporting documentation, pay the required fees, and rate the service.

Within 48 hours, the applicant will also get the transaction by email. Additionally, the channels include of the ICP’s Customer Happiness Centers, where a candidate may submit an application after meeting all requirements and providing all required documentation. The applicant may also submit an application at a typing center recognized by the ICP.

If an application is returned because the data is incomplete or there aren’t enough supporting papers, the application is electronically denied after 30 days, and if it’s returned three times for the same reason, it’s fully rejected.

In this situation, only the issuance fees and financial guarantees are reimbursed (if any) via credit card within six months of the application’s submission date or through the other fee-recovery methods of check or bank transfer within five years.

The ICP also stated that the prescribed fees are AED 350, which comprises AED 100 for application fees, AED 100 for issuance fees, AED 100 for smart services, and AED 50 for the ICP and electronic services. Additional requirements include providing a copy of the passport and a colored personal portrait.

Please be aware that if it is not possible to enter the country within the allowed time period from the date of issue, the visa’s validity may be extended only once, for a total of 60 days.
